Garbage
disposal in Sydney has changed significantly in recent years.
Mainly
because the laws around garbage have also changed. We are in a more environmentally
conscious world.
Australia
as a country is one of the leaders in working to reduce carbon footprints and
be environmentally friendly.
And
NSW and Sydney are specifically aligned with that.
I
have been an independent garbage disposal contractor for over 20 years. So I
have seen many changes during that time.
What
I want to share with you in this article, are some key elements about 'the
backend': where your garbage goes, how it is treated. All in line with the
disposal of waste and the responsible disposal of the same.
Sydney Waste
Facilities
There
are more than 12 waste recycling, processing and disposal facilities that serve
Sydney and beyond.
Each site has specific types of waste that they will receive and will not receive.
There
is also a nursery of native seedlings in Lucas Heights where they grow native
plants to rehabilitate closed landfills.
There
are currently four open dumps throughout Sydney that are designed in such a way
that they minimize the amount of space used but maximize the amount of time
the dump will remain open for operation.
There
are areas of waste reception at sites that are designed to reduce the amount of
vehicle movement and provide waste transmission services.
WSN
pioneered the generation of green energy from waste at NSW in 1994, this the process extends throughout all sites and generates energy to power up to 30,000
homes.
